Each year, the Rutgers Future Scholars program—in collaboration with the public school districts in Rutgers’ host communities of Newark, Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark—invites 200 first-generation, at-risk, low-income 7th grade students to become part of a unique college preparatory and success pipeline.
This includes a breadth of academic and experiential components, such as rigorous University-taught academic preparation, campus and cultural events, in-school and after-school tutoring, and mentoring that will continue throughout their high school years.
Following this preparation, should they qualify and elect to attend Rutgers, the University will reward students with a four-year, tuition-free education, as well as related academic and social support to ensure their successful graduation.

In short, Rutgers Future Scholars is reaching minority and low-income students who might otherwise never consider college within their grasp;
It is truly transforming lives, igniting dreams of college, and opening up new worlds of possibilities.

A Message from the President of Rutgers University
Richard L. McCormick
"We commit to five years of support through mentoring, visits to campus, summer courses, and college prep, and those who complete the program and are admitted to Rutgers are guaranteed free tuition.
These are students who otherwise may never have dreamed of college. And they are truly inspiring. Virtually everyone in the first cohort returned for their second year, and most are maintaining good grades in school. Their sights have been lifted, their imaginations are soaring, and they are so proud." Read More
